Why Buy Used Tires?

I’m sure that at some point in my life I considered or maybe even purchased used tires somewhere.  But as soon as I had regular employment, and as soon as I got a bit older, the appeal of used tires diminished.  Sure, they save money now, but they will need to be replaced sooner than new tires, and every time you change tires you have to pay for all of those extras like balancing and valve stems and such.

I haven’t bought any used rubber for my cars in at least twenty years as far as I can remember, and I wasn’t planning on doing so either.

And then I bought my most recent tires for my little Kia Rio5 hatchback.  I’m planning on selling this car within the next year, but my original factory tires from Kumho were down to almost no tread left on the front in less than 30,000 miles.  I probably should have rotated them at least once.  Oh well.  Any way, I wanted better tires with more warranty, but I was hoping to keep the price reasonable.  But I did want good rolling resistance.  I ended up letting the salesman push me through on a deal for four Yokohama tires with 60,000 mile warranties.  After all the fees, and after a rebate I still ended up paying over $600!  Holy crap that hurt.  And then just to rub it in I get a free Dallas Cowboys jersey.  Yeah, the 0-2 Cowboys.  Suddenly   rel=nofollow [http://thedixons.net/why-would-anyone-buy-used-tires]used tires don’t sound like such a bad idea!

So I’m going to research this whole used tires thing for a bit.  My wife’s car will probably need tires at some point, and by next year we should be traveling down the road in a big truck pulling a travel trailer.  More axles equals more tires!  I’m interested in finding out more about retreads too.  That seems like a great solution with cheaper prices while not giving up quality.
